As a Church we have entered a spell of 40 days of prayer and fasting.  The aim is that the church shall listen to what God is saying to us, so it is primarily a listening exercise.  one of the images that came to me today at a prayer session was "to be a source of life giving water in a barren land"

I'm not too sure what that means yet, but hope to understand soon

I have a service at Lower Stoke on Sunday.  It is the home church of my mentor - no pressure then..  I am looking forward to it and pray that God will bless the service and everyone present.

We live in a world that to all intents and purposed doesn’t work in the way that it should.   We only have to look at the news sources to see new ways that humans find to damage others.   Most often it is the poor and weak who are taken advantage of, sometimes sold into slavery, often victims of ideological conflict in one shape or another. How then can we preach the Good News, in the face of illness, of poverty, of hatred, of fear, of dishonesty? God the Storm Calmer

   In Mark’s story of the events on Galilee, there is a sense of the disciples relating to Jesus as a Father figure.   They were in trouble and they turned to the figure asleep in the back of their boat.   The one who they had come to belief could fix anything.   It also seems that they bothered him until he woke up.   But there is so much more to this story than just that.   Mark shows us here that even the forces of nature answer to Jesus.   This fits right into Jesus’ role as leading the final exodus.   Just as God is seen saving the Israelites from the Egyptians when they had to cross the red sea (you’ll find that in Exodus Ch 14).   Jesus here commands the forces of nature, and they immediately obey.   It is clear then that Mark is making the claim that Jesus is none other than the God of Israel come in human form.   No wonder the apostles were terrified.   Jesus as a nice friendly and loving human is one thi...

This week saw the horror of terrorism on the streets of France.  Today, we saw a city united in strength of resolve to stand against terrorism, against fear, against violence and for the freedom of speech and thought.   http:// instagram.com/p/xuVtR5HRDU/   # JeSuisCharlie pic.twitter.com/nsPjn7MVLj No doubt while many seek to work for an inclusive peaceful society, there will still be the scaremongerers, especially those with a axe to grind, those who fear equality, those who require that their version of reality is the version that is played out.
